The flood was a pain in the neck. The floodwater, on the other hand, turned out to be a good time.
After the rain dumped on the haunt build, we had water everywhere we didn't want it. But there's a rule of haunt building: when life hands you a flooded second story, you jump off it.
/ The Jump
Second story into the floodwater. Not a small jump, and the water was deep enough to take it. There's no graceful way to do it — there's just the way where you commit.
We'd been fighting the water for days. For about an hour, we stopped fighting it and just used it.
/ Why It Works
Build season is long and the setbacks pile up. But the crew that can laugh and jump into the flood after pumping it for two days is the crew that makes it to October. That's the part of the job that doesn't show up in the photos — except this time it did.
Until the next run out — work hard, play hard.
